Plate loader

A missed plate is how a planned 60 kg becomes 70 kg. Enter the weight and the bar. The loader lists the plates for one side. Put the same plates on the other side.

20 kg Olympic bar, or 15 kg if that is the bar in your hand.

Plates used, heaviest first: 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25 kg. Collars are not included. Put the same plates on both sides before you unrack.

How a bar is loaded

  • The bar counts. A 20 kg bar plus the plates is the weight you write down. Do not write only the plates.
  • Heaviest plates go on first, closest to the sleeves you are standing inside. Smaller plates go outside them.
  • If the gym has no 1.25 kg plates, the loader may stop short of the number you typed. It tells you the weight you can actually make.
  • Collars add a little and stop the plates walking. They are not in the sum. If you care about that fraction, know your collars.
  • Load both sides before you step under the bar or deadlift it. One side heavier is how bars tip.
